Pardon our progress. It's a sign begging your forgiveness for short-term inconvenience in pursuit of long-term improvement.
It could be UAB Football's supplemental motto.
Right after #WinAsOne.
Because the new artificial turf at Legion Field is almost but not quite ready, the Blazers will have to stage their second closed scrimmage of preseason camp today on their own practice field on campus at the Football Operations Center at Legacy Pavilion.
It's not an ideal situation by any means. Bill Clark would much rather be able to put his team through its paces on its home field and have the players start to get familiar with the new turf, especially with the opening game coming in 12 days. But given the obstacles Clark and company have overcome, this one should be a relatively minor bump in the road.
After last weekend's first scrimmage, which also took place at Legacy Pavilion, Clark explained the importance of getting some preseason work done in a game-like setting at Legion Field. He mentioned the communication from press box to sideline as one key factor that can't realistically be duplicated at the Football Operations Center.
"We've got a great environment here," Clark said, "but we want to go where we're going to play."
UAB is optimistic it will be able to work at Legion Field within the next week. The Blazers open their 2019 season Thursday Aug. 29 at Legion Field against Alabama State.
